Based on a two week trip to Dublin and Connemara in 1993.
Ireland is an amazing country. Beautiful scenery, a great culture and very friendly people. Dublin is a really cool city, definitely worth spending some time there. One of the best ways to explore Ireland and get close to both the nature and the people is by bike. We cycled all around Connemara and greatly enjoyed it. We also really liked the Aran Islands. Contrary to what many people say, the weather in Ireland can be pretty good. We never had rain for longer than a couple of hours at the most. The climate is also very healthy and the constantly changing weather (a mix of sunshine, clouds and possibly a quick shower) keeps you really fit. The clouds and the light in Ireland (and the British Islands in general) are just amazing. Ireland is also one of the few places left in Europe where you get a real wilderness experience. There is a variety of beautiful undisturbed landscapes, and because population density is so low, you can still find many wide open spaces. Ireland is also extremely interesting historically, from prehistoric times (amazing stone circles) and Gaelic times (beautiful ornaments) to its more recent history and politics. Last but not least, Ireland would not be complete without its many cosy pubs and of course Irish music.
